Purchase of Heritage Quest

NMPL has a great genealogy collection of approximately 2,000 volumes. Our resources predominantly cover the counties of Wetzel and Tyler in West Virginia and Monroe County Ohio.

We have Wetzel county newspapers on microfilm and many family histories relating to the area.

To enhance our genealogy services, the Library recently purchased the online database, Hertiage Quest. This resource gives you access to all of the U. S. Census microfilm for each census year and each state. Other information included in this database are family and county histories as well as some Revolutionary War materials. Anyone may use this database in the library. Those of you with a NMPL card may also access this information from home by logging onto our website @ http://newmartinsville.lib.wv.us/. Please call the Library at 455-4545 if there are any questions on how to use Heritage Quest. Enjoy.

New Service for Cardholders

Cooperating libraries in 17 counties of Northern West Virginia are offering a new library service for cardholders. You many now place requests online for books you wish to read and have them sent to your home library.

It is a simple process:

1. Log on to the library's online card catalog.
2. Search for the title or author of your choice.
3. When searching by author a list of books will appear. Located at the end of the line for a title you will see Place Request
4. When searching for a book by title you will see at the very bottom of the screen a box with a check mark and the word request
5. When either one of these boxes--Place Request or Request is clicked you will be asked to
provide the following information:

Your name
Barcode from your library card
Pin number
Pickup location; using the dropdown box please check your home library for the pickup

If you have questions about this new service please come to the Library and we will show you how to use this service. Of course if you prefer our Staff will continue to place book requests for you. We know you are going to enjoy this service as it increases your access to books from other libraries.

TumbleBooks is Here

TumbleBooks is an online database of children's animated and audio books.
There are a number of sections for your enjoyment. Animated picture books, readable books, and audio books as well as online puzzles that accompany many of the books. New titles are added frequently and you can even select your own playlist! A number of the titles are also available in French and Spanish.

The purchase of this database was made possible through a grant from the West Virginia Legislature. Our thanks go to Dave Pethel, Larry Edgell, and Jeff Kessler for securing this grant for NMPL.

We think adults will enjoy this entertaining and engaging database along with the children.
